16 – Enjoy the journey of life

BY STAN KONTOS

Oftentimes, people tend to get so busy and consumed with things that don’t have a lot of meaning in the long run. It’s easy to become consumed by your career, or your business, and in doing so stay focussed on your goals. It’s good to work hard (I’m an advocate of what you put in, you get out in return) but it’s also good to play hard too. This helps you stay balanced.

I heard someone say “It’s not that life is too short, it’s that we wait so long to start living”.  If we want to truly enjoy the journey of life, we have to take time to stop and smell the roses.  Do you appreciate the people you love?  Do you hug your kids and give your life partner a kiss before you leave for work each day?  When was the last time you called your parents to tell thank them for all the sacrifices they made whilst they were bringing you up? When was the last time you sat on the beach and appreciated nature? And how about the last time you invited friends over and threw a party?  That’s how we can enjoy the journey.

If you enjoy the journey of life, you’ll live with no regrets. I often talk about the “rocking chair test” – when you are old and in your rocking chair, what will you say to yourself? Will you say “yes my life is an example!?” Or will you say “Oh dear my life was a warning!?”  I’d like to hear you say to yourself “I made the most of my life. I enjoyed my family. I enjoyed my friends. I finished my course with joy.”

I encourage people to say appreciative affirmations every day. So how about affirming this to yourself twice a day: “Thank you for all the great people in my life. Thank you for the enjoyment of family and friends. Thank you for the enjoyment of the journey of life.”

I look forward to meeting you at our next Breakfast at the Next Level event with guest speaker Henry Olonga.

Each month we know you will go to the next level in life.

Live with passion, purpose and always be at peace,
