44 – The importance of being forgiving
BY STAN KONTOS
We have all been “hurt” by others in our lives with what they say, or what they do (or don’t do), or how they talk about us. We cannot control how other people think or what they do. But we can control how we respond or react to their behaviour. This is leadership at its finest level – the ability to manage one’s thoughts, emotions and behaviours to create inner inspiration regardless of the circumstances outside us.
Forgiveness can be one of the most difficult things to do. It is not until we realise that forgiving is not about allowing or accepting another person’s behaviour to suddenly become OK – it is more about how we can “let go” of a troublesome thought and emotion. You see when we forgive someone, what we are effectively doing is “letting go of the personal block” that was holding us back from moving forward. Lack of forgiveness can result in anxiety, lost sleep, fear, anger, hurt and all sorts of negative emotions. And if we are to become positive people inspiring others around us, we need to learn the science and art of forgiveness. I say it is a science because we have to speak forgiveness into the situation (even though we may not feel it) and also an art because we have to do our utmost to release the emotions (sometimes crying is a good thing and helpful to release it). When we put the intention out that we want to be free from such baggage and release this block by forgiving, we experience internal freedom and inner peace.
Now the other person may not change and they may think they have done nothing wrong to you or they may not have apologised – this is irrelevant. What is relevant is we have released it and become free so we can think creatively and enjoy life.
When we forgive we enhance our connection with the creative force of the universe (God) and we feel good and then begin to see more good things come into our lives. We are connected once again!
Go forward today and think about the people you need to forgive and put in the effort to forgive them, cleansing your inner world from this darkness and being free once again as you deserve to be.
Live with passion, always stay on your life purpose, and stay at peace.
