About our guest Gary Williams, Founder of Assured Home Loans and Assured Property Invest

WINNING is an autobiography that reveals a unique ability, right from childhood, to visualise, achieve and succeed. Through Gary Williams’ life story, despite his larrikin-style and mistakes made along the way, you will learn what it takes to achieve wealth and ultimate success in anything you choose to do and without qualifications or formal training. You can succeed on your own terms and under your own steam. In ‘Winning’, this is reflected in so many areas of Gary’s life, including music, business, publishing, pilot training, gyro and helicopter flight, financial freedom, financial management and more.

By reading this book, you will learn the secrets and tips to follow to achieve your goals in any area, whether that be business, wealth building or honing your skills in a creative pursuit, to the highest level—or all of the above, as Gary has done.

His book will show you that anyone can achieve through adopting the same philosophies and the same level of passion, focus and commitment to a goal or set of goals. Don’t let anyone get in the way and don’t let anyone tell you ‘you can’t’. Believe in yourself and your ability; know that you are capable and do not waver from that belief; be focussed and determined; set your goal and do it. The more passion you release to achieve, the more success you will experience.

Finally, you need to know that God wants you just as you are, not with you trying to be good to please him because if you are like me you suck at trying to be good.

About our guest

John Charlton | Founder of Spendless Shoes

Mr John Charlton is a retailer with over 38 years of experience in retailing operations within Australia, and was the Founder and Owner of Spendless Shoes, before selling to The Shoe Group in July 2019.

John Charlton founded & ran Spendless Shoes for 31 years, a national family footwear retail chain of 250 stores plus online, with over 800 employees. Originally coming from a footwear wholesaling and importing family, he broke away from to start a business in retail. John is known for his flair for driving sales growth, a vibrant culture and a commercially successful business.

John Charlton opened the first Spendless Shoes in Glenelg, South Australia, in 1988. The high-volume, low-cost business was a far cry from John Charlton’s first retail job selling footwear for David Jones, but the model of allowing customers to self-select their own shoes by size – a concept that was popular in the US but less so in Australia at the time – proved to be a success.

For 15 years, John Charlton had a partner in the business whom he eventually bought out and shortly thereafter his daughter, Jaimee Charlton joined the business. John Charlton sold Spendless Shoes in 2019, while Jaimee has stayed on as General Manager under the new ownership.

John Charlton has served as a member of council of Wilderness School for 12 years (including 7 years as Chair), St Peter’s College for 5 years, and is a member of the Finance and Infrastructure Committee of the University of Adelaide.

He currently sits on the board of various large Australian companies, such as Lovisa and Detmold.
